A Partial tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck is done on people who have excess abdominal fat below the belly button. This is the area which sags after pregnancy and childbirth, or due to weight gain or loss, or due to age. Or even due to some earlier surgical procedure. The muscle elasticity is lost, giving the abdomen a sagging look, which is not very attractive to the eye.
The patient has to plan and research on the procedure before they go in for it. If the patients case is not too serious then they will need not go in for a full abdominoplasty. The patient can consider a partial one. The results will be the same depending upon the area to be contoured. The patient has to find an experienced surgeon who will undertake the surgery and they will have to have full confidence in the surgeon.
Abdominoplasty is a surgical operation which involves one or two incisions. In a partial tummy tuck, only one incision, just above the pubic area is made. The skin flap is lifted and the muscles tightened, the fat removed by liposuction. The navel or the belly button may be loosened from the surrounding abdominal tissues and relocated, as it may need a different place after the tummy tuck is performed. Most partial tummy tuck patients will have a lower belly button leaving the upper abdominal skin to redistribute in a different manner. The operated area is then sutured and bandages applied.
The recovery period of a partial tummy tuck patient is less than that of a standard tummy tuck patient. As long as he does not develop any allergy to medicines or anesthesia, as long as there is n o extra swelling, bleeding, pain or discomfort, or clotting, then he need not worry. If any of these occur then he should consult the doctor.
Patients who go in for partial tummy tucks are those whose problems are not very severe. They can adjust with a mini tummy tuck, which is less elaborate than a typical abominoplasty.
