Breast Lift Surgery

Loss of elasticity, pregnancy, weight loss, breast-feeding all ultimately leads to the drooping of the breast. The most advanced way of correcting this is through breast lift surgery. Breast lift can be the answer for a patient who has decreased volume of breast that has sagged and to those who have moderate breast volume in order to reshape them. The reasons can vary.

In the first visit, the plastic surgeon will discuss about the patient’s medical history and after that, the surgeon will decide whether or not the person is fit for such a surgery.

The time of the surgery will depend on the degree of sagging. The surgery consists of different procedures and techniques to correct the present condition of the breast. The procedure first consists of removing the excessive skin from the lower portion of the breast including the areola. After that the surgeon performs skin shifting to tighten and envelop the skin and in certain cases an implant will be inserted for projection and smoothening of the skin, giving the breast a youthful appearance.

The breast lift surgery takes about one to five hours depending on the type of technique the surgeon uses. The breast lift technique falls into two categories namely, the concentric as well as the donut breast lift. It is specially recommended for women with little breast which is already drooping. This surgery requires fewer incisions. The patient will be given a local anesthesia with a sedative. As the name suggests, concentric circles, around the areola will be drawn and cut and removed, shifting the areola and nipples upwards. Then a fine suture is made around the areola.

The second breast lift technique is the anchor shaped technique which is meant for women with large, heavily sagging and drooping breasts. Firstly, the physician will make a keyhole mark above the nipple and areola and from the bottom of the keyhole the physician would probably draw an anchor shape over the breast. The skin along with some tissue from this area will be removed. The suture is made around the areola vertically lower to the chest, and side to side along the present fold of the breast.

Most of the breast lift surgeries are being performed on an out patient basis in a surgical suite. The patient is discharged after the procedure, which will allow them to recover comfortably in their own home. But in certain cases where a large amount of tissue is removed the following night will be monitored by a staff nurse in the hospital itself. The pain becomes less intense after 48 hours.

Breast lift surgery will give an immediate and dramatic change to your breasts.
